the kite runner
although i've read the book and watched the movie, watching it again still makes me cry.
no amount of good doing could compensate the pain he caused his friend. there is a way to be good again, but i think it's too late.

the witch of portobello
" I was trying to come round to the idea that there might be an invisible reality capable of interfering in our lives, but only reason I did so was because of a love I didn't want to believe I felt but which was continuing to grow in a subtle, devastating way.
I was content in my universe and didn't want to change it at all, even though I was being propelled in that direction."

thanks for the memories
i started reading cecelia ahern when brother vince lend me a copy of Rosie Dunne. i love the story that i bought a copy for my boyfriend as a gift. i am indeed a cecelia ahern loyal fan, i have copies of all her books, watched P.S. I love You and Samantha Who as well.
Rosie Dunne reminds me of the exchange of text messages, e-mails, conversations I had with Elias. (or should i say, i was reminded of Rossie Dunne when i had an unending exchange of messages with Elias, since the book came first before the bf). P.S. I Love You is a light and heart warming read. If You Could See Me Now is an interesting reminder of our imaginary friend. and A Place Called Here has been a favorite phrase since I first read it. i have been waiting for a copy of Thanks for the Memories since i first heard about it in her website, imagine how excited i was when i finally have a copy.
"Joyce nearly lost everything else, a marriage in pieces and lost her baby. but she survived the terrible accident and now, inexplicably, she can remember faces she has never seen, cobblestone Parisian streets she's never visited. a sudden, overwhelming sense of deja vu have Joyce feeling as if her life is not her own. Justin, on the other hand, decides to donate blood, the first thing to come straight from his heart in a long time. from a failed marriage, he chased his ex-wife and daughter from chicago to london. and now, restless & tired, he lectures college students in dublin. everything changed with arrival of anonymous presents that will launch Justin into a heart of mystery and forever alter two lives."
the story, i must say, is predictable and it's not as interesting as the other books. but, i so love the cover and like i said, i am an unconditional ahern fan. this doesn't stop me from looking forward to reading The Gift which is already available in UK. i wonder when i can find it in the local store, ahhh..
thanks for the memories... "how is it possible to know someone you've never met?"

moving too fast
during our busiest days, time seems never enough. we, often times, hope we can freeze time and try to grasp the seconds. we move too fast.

Brisingr
i have been anticipating the release of the 3rd book of the inheritance cycle since i read "Eldest". imagine my joy when i finally got a hardbound copy of the book.
it's "unputdownable". an-almost-750 pages-book-of-several-events-and-action. i was disappointed though because i expected that this will be the last book. apparently, another book is coming
i like the series, named my car "Saphira" after Eragon's dragon.

nights of rodanthe
and as always, Nicholas Sparks inspired and brings out the sentimental side of me. i end up reading the book in one sitting.
i will definitely watch the movie.
"for those who don't believe that love can blossom as quickly as it did for Paul and Adrienne, it can, and it's real as love that takes years to form."
and as for that dumb officemate, i still don't wish him well

adaptability
in preparation for my job interviews, i have been reading the-so-called-serious-books lately. not fiction this time, maybe while i am busy looking for better opportunity. now, discover your strengths by Marcus Buckingham talks about each person's greatest room for growth which is in the areas of his strengths. and so, i decided to take the exam honestly. this i discover -- one of my strengths is adaptability.
Adaptability - you live in the moment. you don't see the future as a fixed destination. instead, you see it as a place that you create out of the choices that you make right now. And so you discover your future one choice at a time. this doesn't mean that you don't have plans. you probably do. adaptabilitydoes enable you to respond willingly to demands of the moment even pull you away from your plans. you don't resent sudden requests or unforeseend detours. you expect them. they are inevitable. indeed, on some level you actually look forward to them, you are, at heart, a very flexible person who can stay productive when the demands of work are pulling you in many different directions at once.
and as for my applications, i have my final interview tomorrow. if i got this job, it will be a 360 degrees change in environment but a great opportunity for me to grow. let's see.. what will be, will be. sounds Adaptability to me, cheers!

Sundays at Tiffany's
while waiting for elias, i spent time in a bookstore and got myself 2 books. one, the prince by niccolo machiavelli and james patterson's new book Sundays at Tiffany's. it was probably the after-effect of cecilia ahern's if you could see him now which made me bought this book. these books were about kid's imaginary friend. with such interests, i probably have one imaginary friend as a kid. was he Ivan or Michael?
children have imaginary friends to help them find their place in the world. if once in my childhood, i had one. i believe that today my imaginary friend is myself. the difference is unlike imaginary friends who will leave you once you turned nine-year old, i don't.
as for the book, i'm still half way reading it. so far, i like the story. a simple sweet love story which says Love means you can never be apart.

looking at other people's gardens
by Paulo Coelho
'you can give a fool a thousand intellects, but the only one he will want is yours', says an Arabic proverb. when we start planting the garden of our life, we glance to one side and notice our neighbor is there, spying. he himself is incapable of growing anything, but he likes to give advice on when to sow actions, when to fertilize thoughts, and when to water achievements.
if we listen to what this neighbor is saying, we will end up working for him, and the garden of our life will be our neighbor's idea. we will end up forgetting about the earth we cultivated with so much sweat and fertilized with so many blessings. we will forget that each centimetre of earth has its mysteries that only the patient hand of the gardener can decipher. we will no longer pay attention to the sun, the rain, and the seasons; we will concentrate instead only on that head peering at us over the hedge.
the fool who loves giving advice on our garden never tends his own plants at all.

like the flowing river
be like the flowing river,
silent in the night.
be not afraid of the dark.
if there are stars in the sky, reflect them back.
if there are clouds in the sky,
remember, clouds, like the river, are water,
so, gladly reflect them too,
in your own tranquil depths.

the five people you meet in heaven ... part 2
The story is about a little wave, bobbling along in the ocean, having a grand old time. He’s enjoying the wind and the fresh air – until he notices the other waves in front of him, crashing against the shore.
“My God, this is terrible”, the wave says. “Look what’s going to happen to me.”
Then came along another wave, it sees the first wave looking grim, and it says to him. “Why do you look sad?” The first wave says, “You don’t understand. We’re all going to crash. All of us waves are going to be nothing. Isn’t it terrible?”
The second wave says, “No, you don’t understand. You’re not a wave, you’re part of the ocean.”

the kite runner
while watching a movie, i noticed the trailer of The Kite Runner. so immediately i got myself a copy of the book by Khaled Hosseini.
reading the first part of the book, i find myself loving it. simple writing which compels me to turn page to page. i hope to finish reading before the film's showing day.
the Kite Runner is about 2 friends who got separated by events. setting in Afghanistan, which shows a vivid picture of the country. and apparently the Afghan government has banned the film from being shown because of ethnic tensions that the movie pictures.
2/18 i am now reading chapter 8 and indeed this book interests me so so so much. it's not just a plain simple writing but it is full of surprises, and pain.

p.s. i love you
a movie based on a novel by cecelia ahern is on its first showing day and i wouldn't miss it for anything. (not even a steam bath or sauna, wink*wink*)
the story is about a married couple so deeply inlove with each other, having a time of their life when suddenly death comes in between them. Gerry’s death takes the life out of Holly. However, morbid as this sounds, Gerry left her letters that will take her to new adventure and each ends in “P.S. I love you”. I was already in tears after few minutes of watching the movie. It was like feeling Holly’s every pain. I was moved by her struggle to move on and their undying love.
a journey of rediscovery in a story about marriage, friendship and how a love so strong can turn the finality of death into a new beginning for life
the movie differs to the book in several ways but i couldn’t choose one over the other.
a place called Here
People go missing and things go missing most of the time. According to the book “a place called Here”, all those who and which are missing, are found in this place. Where is Here? It’s an in-between place.
This is another creation of Cecilia Ahern which is as witty as her other book, “If you could see me now”. a reflection of a child at heart in all of us. The main character is obsessed with finding missing things until she herself got missing and then stumbles upon a place where everyone she’s looking for are there. a “lost and found” area for all things missing. a place called Here.
What if there’s really Here? What if the people we thought are missing just moved to this place? Will I find the people I met somewhere from time immemorial? Will I find the shirts I’ve been looking for? Just a thought, although I don’t wish finding myself in “Here” at all
Sometimes people go missing by choice. If I go missing one day, probably by choice. And if I do, I would want someone to find me, more than anything.
“I can only assume that there’s only one thing more frustrating than not being able to find someone, and that’s not being found.”

a make believe
i got a chance to be interviewed in a magazine (READ by Powerbooks). i'm sharing the article with you. (a make believe)
Blanca: procurement engineer, a student, a friend & a pretty girl in the neighborhood (down those eyebrows, this is my article!)
How Did you Became a Reader? I started reading back in high school, influenced by my classmates who made the library their sanctuary.
What did you read when you were growing up? I find joy in the lives of the Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew and the Sweet Valley twins.Oh! I love Jessica and the Unicorns. They's my best friends.
What are your Top Ten Favorite/Memorable Books?
The following are my top ten as of now, I believe there are hundreds to be discovered yet. Obviously, The Five People You Meet in Heaven. Again, illuminating the mysteries of a "meaningless" life and the wonderful connection between everyone. P.S. I love you by Cecelia Ahern, a great love story and i definitely can't wait to see the movie. My favorite line in this book is from the song Holly sung.. "i'll get by with the help of my friends".Cecelia's other books; If you could see me now, a reminder of our childhood days and our imaginary friend; and Rosie Dunne, a love story told through letters, emails and SMS messages -- i can relate. The Alchemist by Paulo Cuelho, everyone's responsibility to follow our dreams or should I say alalahanin mo panaginip mo. The Little Prince, what is essential is invisible to the eyes. Hope for the Flowers, be a butterfly! Eragon and the Eldest, i love Saphira. James Patterson's Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas & Sam's Letter to Jennifer, sob sob sob.
What do you base your choice of books to read? I usually check Power Books recommendation and best seller, check READ magazines and recommendation from friends. Once I read a creation of an author and enjoyed it, I'll continue to read their other works.
What do you do with your books before and after reading them? I don't read a book unless I had it covered already and then after reading, I just keep them. I make sure my books are accounted in my librarything account.
What are you reading now? What's next in yur reading list? I'm trying to finish the Letters to a Young Poet. I have Pursuit to Happyness next in my reading list.

the five people you meet in heaven
one of my favorites. reveals unexpected connection of our lives. how interesting every person who came and touched our lives. we may not realize the difference they made but time will come when we will find ourselves saying "Someone said this to me".
illuminates the mysteries of what we thought "meaningless" life. remember the stranger who helped you find your way when you were lost? we are all connected to each other in ways we may not realize nor understand
